CDi's MCSE Certification Training There are now two MCSE
Tracks to consider -- the 4.0 track and the new 2000 track. There are several issues you should consider in making your choice.
- Microsoft has announced as of December 31, 2000 the Four Core Course of the MCSE 4.0 Track and the TCP/IP Course will be retired.
- MCSE's with 4.0 certification must take the MCSE Upgrade test for 2000 and One MCSE 2000 Elective to become certified in WIndows 2000 by December 2001.
- The Upgrade Test for MCSE Windows 2000 can only be taken one time. If you fail the test, you must take all Four Core Exams for MCSE Windows 2000 and MCSE Windows 2000 Elective(s).
- Most companies will not be switching to Windows 2000 for at least 1-2 years
- Most companies hiring IT professionals within the next 12-18 months will be looking for candidates still with MCSE 4.0 certification or experience in the Operating System
- Microsoft is trying to prevent and eliminate Paper MCSE Certified IT professional(Students who passed the tests by just memorizing a book)Also knowledge of TCP/IP is required for individuals doing just the MCSE
2000 Track
Ideally an individual would want to be certified in the MCSE 4.0 Track and take the Upgrade Exam for MCSE 2000, this way they would be certified in both Systems, but there are the time restraints to consider.
Other options are to pass
the Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Windows NT 4.0 Server and Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise Exams by 12/31/00. This allows you to take the Upgrade Test for 2000 (Instead of all four Windows 2000 Core tests) and the Three Windows 2000 Electives to get certified

If you pass the Four Core of the MCSE 4.0 Track by
12/31/00, you can finish up your 4.0 certification next year by taking two electives that are not retiring(Exchange Server 5.5, SQL 7.0).Students considering taking the MCSE 2000 or 4.0 Tracks should in addition take
the A+ Certification
(or have equivalent knowledge) and also Networking + Certification, covers Networking Concepts and TCP/IP(or have equivalent knowledge)
Present MCSE 4.0 Certified Professionals can take the following for MCSE 2000 Certification
- 1560: Updating Support Skills from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to Microsoft 2000
