This five-day course is intended for network integrators, system engineers, and support professionals who implement and support TCP/IP in local and wide area network environments. This course syllabus should be used to determine whether the course is appropriate for the student, based on current skills and technical training needs. This five-day course is intended for channel partners, support professionals from medium and large organizations, resellers, and customers. Students are Microsoft Certified Professionals on Windows NT Server or have equivalent knowledge. This course provides a training solution for support professionals working in a Microsoft® Windows NT® Server–based enterprise environment. It is assumed that students of this course are experienced support professionals and have experience supporting a Windows NT Server–based network. The goal of Supporting Microsoft Window NT Server 4.0 - Enterprise Technologies is for support professionals to be able to design, implement, and support enterprise technologies on a Windows NT Server–based network.

Prerequisites

  • Administration experience with Windows NT Server, as covered in the upcoming Administering Microsoft Windows NT Server course
  • Strong familiarity with Windows NT as covered in Supporting Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.51 and Support Fundamentals for Microsoft Windows NT: Self-Paced Training

732: Supporting Microsoft Systems Management Server 1.2 Exam 70-18

This five-day course is intended for system engineers and network administrators who are responsible for installing and updating computer hardware and software, tracking hardware and software inventory, compliance with software licenses, managing network servers, and providing ongoing support to end users. This course provides students with the knowledge and skills required to install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot Microsoft® Systems Management Server version 1.2. Students will have an opportunity to plan and implement multiple Systems Management Server sites, collect hardware and software inventory, distribute software to client computers, manage shared applications, and use remote control functions to diagnose and solve common problems.

Prerequisites

  • the Supporting Microsoft Windows NTtm Server course or equivalent knowledge
  • experience installing, using, and configuring Windows NT Server and Remote Access Server (RAS)

Course No. 803: Administering Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Exam 70-67&73

This three-day course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform post-installation and day-to-day administration tasks in a single-domain and multiple-domain Windows NT®–based network.

Prerequisites: working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows® 95 or Windows NT 4.0 interface, including the ability to:

  • use Windows Explorer
  • start an application
  • open, close, minimize, maximize, and move windows
  • switch between applications and tasks

Course No. 832: System Administration for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0

This five-day course is intended for system administrators who implement and support Microsoft SQL Server in an enterprise network. This course provides students with the knowledge and skills required to install, configure,administer and troubleshoot Microsoft® SQL Server™ client/server database management system version 7.0.

Prerequisites  Supporting M/S WIN NT Server 4.0 or equivalent knowledge, including ability to:

  • share and access network resources
  • set up Windows NT user accounts through User Manager for Domains
  • edit the Registry
  • describe the difference between a domain and a workgroup
  • change network settings using Control Panel
  • understand basic Transact-SQL® syntax

833: Implementing a Database Design on Microsoft SQL Server 7.0

This five-day course is intended for system engineers and developers who are responsible for implementing Microsoft SQL Server and writing Transact-SQL code. It provides students with the technical skills required to implement a database solution with the Microsoft® SQL Server™ client/server database management system, based on a case-study design. Lab exercises allow hands-on implementation of the case-study design.

Prerequisites  Experience using the Microsoft Windows NT® Server network operating system:

  • working knowledge of the Windows® interface.
  • understanding of basic Microsoft network functions and terminology
  • one year of experience with relational databases
  • support or design of a relational database.
  • understanding of the fundamental concepts of relational database design.
  • three to six months of experience with SQL Server

922: Supporting Microsoft Windows NT 4.0: Core Technologies Exams 70-67 & 73

This five-day course provides the core foundation for supporting Microsoft® Windows NT® operating system version 4.0. The goal of this course is to provide support professionals with the skills necessary to install, configure, customize, optimize, network, integrate, and troubleshoot Windows NT 4.0. Content primarily of interest in a complex environment—such as capacity planning on a server and a network, multiple domain management, and trust relationships—are covered in depth in a series of courses that make up the Expert Series. Content specific to administration of the Windows NT Server network operating system can be found in the Administering Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 course.

Prerequisites

  • working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows® 95 interface, such as customizing the Start menu, configuring the desktop, using Control Panel, moving and sizing windows, and switching between tasks
  • operational understanding of the following microcomputer topics: the Microsoft MS-DOS® operating system, memory, hard disks, types of central processing units (CPUs), communication ports, printer ports, display adapters, and pointing devices

This course is not intended for individuals who have no prior network operating system knowledge. This course syllabus should be used to determine whether the course is appropriate for the student, based on current skills and technical training needs. Technical information is provided on the intended audience, course prerequisites, covered topics, lab exercises, course materials and software.

Prerequisites  Due to the accelerated nature of this course, students must possess a current working knowledge of Windows NT 4.0. Additionally, students should have the following prerequisite knowledge and skills:

successful completion of the following Microsoft Certified Professional exams:

  • Exam 70-67: Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0
  • Exam 70-73: Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0
  • a strong familiarity with Windows NT as covered in Supporting Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Core Technologies and Administering
  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
  • Microsoft Certified Professional designation for Windows NT Server or equivalent level of knowledge.

936b: Creating and Managing a Web Server Using MS IIS 4.0   Exam 70-87

This three day course teaches students how to support the various features of Microsoft Internet Information Server version 4.0. Students will gain understanding of the product's architecture and perform the procedures to install, configure, and support Internet Information Server.

Course No. 973: Core Technologies of Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5

This five-day course provides an introduction to the core technologies of Microsoft Exchange Server. It will prepare students to implement and administer Microsoft Exchange in a single-site or multiple-site environment. Additionally, students will install and configure the Microsoft Outlook desktop information manager client, be given an introduction to the new connectors and protocols in Microsoft Exchange version 5.5, and install Internet Mail Service, Microsoft Mail Connector, and Lotus cc:Mail Connector.

Prerequisites:  The following Microsoft Windows NT–based tasks should be very familiar to the students:

  • creating and administering user and group accounts
  • joining a Windows NT Server domain
  • sharing and using domain resources
  • explaining the Windows NT security architecture
  • starting and stopping services
  • implementing trusts for one-way and two-way communication between Windows NT Server domains
  • using local and global groups to administer any type of Windows NT Server–based network
  • performing network management tasks such as data protection, directory replication, server performance and monitoring, and server tuning
  • describing the four Windows NT Server domain models
  • configuring network protocols

983: Accelerated Training for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

This accelerated, five-day course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to complete day-to-day administration tasks in a single-domain or multiple-domain Microsoft Windows NT-based network.
