• Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you are a member of the administration team at a large insurance firm. You have been assigned the task of bringing the staff up to date on HIPAA. You have attended a number of informative HIPAA seminars, but you will require several more training sessions before you are certified by HIPAA.

Unit 2: HIPAA and Privacy 0.5 - 1 hour
• Identify purposes of the Privacy Rule.
• Identify what the Privacy Rule requires a covered entity to do.
• Identify characteristics of the use and disclosure of information.
• Identify key privacy terminology.
• Identify guidelines for avoiding wrongful disclosure.
• Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you are a member of the administration team at an insurance firm. The head administrator has made it your responsibility to bring the staff up to date about HIPAA. You have attended a number of informative HIPAA seminars with Michael Krantz, Insurance Sales Agent, but you will both require several more training sessions before you are certified by HIPAA.

Unit 3: HIPAA and Privacy Policy 1 - 2 hours
• Identify characteristics of consent.
• Identify nine elements for creating a valid authorization.
• Identify guidelines for dealing with a medical information request.
• Identify guidelines for oral communication.
• Identify the situations where disclosures can be made to group health sponsors.
• Identify group health plan responsibilities to individual subscribers.
• Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you are an insurance adjuster at a large insurance company. You are meeting with Donald Hayes, Senior Insurance Adjuster, as part of your company's ongoing HIPAA compliance program. Donald has undergone extensive training in HIPAA, and is now training the employees in his department. He will ask you a series of questions designed to measure your understanding of HIPAA, specifically consent and authorization.
