• Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you are a member of the administration team at a large, urban hospital. You have attended a number of informative HIPAA seminars, but you will require several more training sessions before you are certified by HIPAA.

Unit 2: HIPAA Privacy Rule 0.5 - 1 hour
• Identify the purposes of the Privacy Rule.
• Identify what the Privacy Rule requires a covered entity to do.
• Identify key privacy terminology.
• Identify when it is appropriate to use patient information.
• Identify when it is inappropriate to use patient information.
• Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you are a member of the administration team at a large, urban hospital. The hospital administrator has made it your responsibility to bring the staff up to date about HIPAA. You have attended a number of informative HIPAA seminars with Helen Atkinson, Human Resources Manager, but you will both require several more training sessions before you are certified by HIPAA.

Unit 3: HIPAA and Privacy Policy 1 - 2 hours
• Identify characteristics of notice.
• Identify core elements of a valid authorization.
• Identify guidelines for dealing with a medical information request.
• Identify guidelines for oral communication.
• Identify the exceptional cases where a parent may not be the personal representative.
• Identify guidelines for improving patient confidentiality in a medical facility.
• Simulation Overview: In this simulation the hospital administrator is concerned that the intense patient load at the hospital does not allow staff the time to study HIPAA regulations, and he is worried about the impending HIPAA start date. He has scheduled a number of meetings for you with various staff members at the hospital.
