Career Certifications

Cisco offers three levels of general certification—from Associate to Professional to Expert, representing the highest level of achievement—available in various paths (or tracks) and designations. A variety of Cisco Qualified Specialist focused certifications are also available to show knowledge in specific technologies, solutions or job roles.

CCIE - The top level in Cisco Career Certifications

  • CCIE Communications and Services - IP and IP routing, Optical, DSL, Dial, Cable, Wan Switching, and IP Telephony.
  • CCIE Routing and Switching - IP, IP routing, non-IP desktop protocols, as well as bridge and switch-related technologies are covered
  • CCIE Security - covers IP and IP routing as well as specific security components
  • CCIE Voice - covers those technologies and applications that comprise a Cisco Enterprise VoIP solution.

Professional - This second level of certification shows expertise with networking foundations

  • CCDP - addresses mainly network services and solutions
  • CCIP - covers networking technologies in the service provider arena including IP routing, IP QoS, BGP, and MPLS.
  • CCNP - emphasizes topics such as security, converged networks, quality of service (QoS), virtual private networks (VPN) and broadband technologies.
  • CCSP - designing and implementing Cisco secure networks

Associate - This is the first step or foundation level of networking certifications

  • CCDA - design routed and switched network infrastructures involving LAN, WAN, and dial access services for businesses and organizations
  • CCNA - install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks (100 nodes or fewer), including but not limited to use of these protocols: IP, IGRP, Serial, Frame Relay, IP RIP, VLANs, RIP, Ethernet, Access Lists.

Specialist - If you have earned an associate level certification (or higher) you are eligible to become qualified in these focused areas, customized to meet specific market needs

General Certification Paths

  • Communications and Services - Aimed at professionals working with infrastructure or access solutions in a Cisco end-to-end environment primarily within the telecommunications arena. Each of these certifications includes a choice of electives such as DSL or Content Networking related to a specific technology.
  • Network Engineering and Design - For professionals who design Cisco technology-based networks in which LAN and WAN routers and switches reside.
  • Network Installation and Support - For professionals who install and support Cisco technology-based networks in which LAN and WAN routers and switches reside.
  • Network Security - Directed toward network professionals who design and implement Cisco Secure networks.
